A wholly owned subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, TM4 designs and manufactures electric and hybrid powertrain systems suitable for the commercial, automotive, marine, mining, rail, motorsports and recreational vehicle markets. A visit at TM4’s facilities is an opportunity to get an inside looks at the birthplace of over 100 patents on electric motor and control system technologies. Through a tour of its manufacturing plant and testing areas, attendees can expect to gain a better understanding of TM4’s mission, products, services and licensed technologies. Visitors will have the opportunity of touring the stator, rotor and power electronic assembly lines as well as seeing the finished products integrated in vehicles.

Hydro-Québec’s research institute, IREQ, is one of the largest integrated electrical research and testing centres in North America. Created in 1967, IREQ has developed large-scale expertise in electrical apparatus, network analysis and control, automation and measurement, materials, chemical and mechanical engineering, and applications of electricity. It has impressive facilities at its disposal: distribution tests lines, high-voltage laboratory, mechanical-thermomechanical laboratory, a power system study and simulation centre and an electrotechnology laboratory, as well as numerous specialized laboratories, notably in robotics, battery materials and mechanical engineering. IREQ has facilities in Varennes, some 45 minutes from downtown Montréal.
Development and marketing of advanced technologies
The researchers at Hydro-Québec’s research institute (IREQ) are developing a range of new battery materials with three objectives in mind: increased safety, improved performance and reduced costs.
To visit IREQ*:
- Canadian and American visitors must provide the full name, passport number and driver’s license number and issuing province/state at least two weeks in advance.
- Visitors from other countries must provide their full name, passport number and issuing country at least two weeks in advance.
- Hydro-Québec’s employees do not have to provide any information in advance but must indicate they are employees of the organization.
- All visitors (Hydro-Québec’s employees included) must show an official I.D. upon their arrival and sign the visitor’s book.
- The visitors who will not have provided the information requested in advance or those who will not have a valid I.D. to show on the day of the visit will not be allowed entry to IREQ.
